Bournemouth vs Liverpool: Match preview and confirmed team news as James Milner makes 500th Premier League appearance

Liverpool will be looking to make it three wins in the space of six days when they take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, kick-off 12:30pm.

The Reds secured a dramatic win in the Merseyside derby on Sunday before coming from behind to beat Burnley on Wednesday and will be licking their lips at the prospect of beating the Cherries, who have lost four of their last five matches.

Liverpool dug deep to claim a win over Burnley at Turf Moor during the week

However, Bournemouth’s last game saw them triumph against Huddersfield so they will have an extra spring in their step.

They also have the incentive of leapfrogging Everton into sixth place if they can anything out of the game.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s men – who will go top of the Premier League for a few hours at least with a win – may have one eye on their crucial Champions League match at home to Napoli on Tuesday night.

What the managers are saying

Eddie Howe (Bournemouth): “We are going to have to be absolutely excellent in every department. It is a big challenge for us.

“We know their strengths, how good they can be. For us we are looking at a top performance and hopefully the result will come our way.”

Eddie Howe says his players will have to be “excellent in every department” for the visit of Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool): “Bournemouth are in a good moment. It was always really hard work for the opponent.

“They are full of confidence. To be first in the table would be nice but it would probably only last a few hours.”

Team news

Callum Wilson is a surprise omission from the Bournemouth squad.

The Cherries will be without Lewis Cook for the rest of the season because of a serious knee injury, while Dan Gosling misses the Liverpool game with his own knee problem.

Defender Adam Smith (knee) continues his rehabilitation.

James Milner makes his 500th Premier League appearances and looks set to start at right-back, while Naby Keita earns another start after his impressive display against Burnley.

Sadio Mane is only fit enough for the bench with a foot injury.

Confirmed line-ups

Bournemouth: Begovic, Francis, Steve Cook, Ake, Daniels, Stanislas, Lerma, Surman, Fraser, Brooks, King.

Subs: Boruc, Pugh, Mousset, Ibe, Defoe, Rico, Mings.

Liverpool: Alisson, Fabinho, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Wijnaldum, Keita, Shaqiri, Salah, Firmino.

Will Jurgen Klopp’s men be top of the tree at the end of the game?
