Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury produced one of the classic boxing matches in recent times as they fought to a draw in Los Angeles at the weekend.

And they are on track to exceed expectations with the U.S pay-per-view market.

The bout was controversially ruled a draw

The heavyweight bout was broadcast on Showtime PPV and is expected surpass 300,000 buys, according to The Ring.

That figure doesn’t include British PPV buys or digital purchases on platforms such as Playstation 4. The fight was also available in cinemas.

If the estimate holds up then it would be a success for Showtime and PBC as the break-even point for the pay-per-view was 250,000, per sources.

Wilder and Fury’s draw at the Staples Center in Los Angeles has prompted cries for a rematch including from Fury’s promoter Frank Warren.

It was each man’s first foray on PPV in North America. Fury was knocked to the canvas twice in the fight including one in the final round, however, many in the boxing community believe the Gypsy King was robbed of victory.

Wilder-Fury is one of the most successful pay-per-views of the decade with fights not involving Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather or Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
